How are the courses structured?

Each course is broken into modules, and each of these has a series of videos accompanied by a downloadable slide deck to step you through it. You do it on your own time, on your own schedule, however that works for you.

At the end of some modules, there is an assignment you can do to cement your learning. These are not compulsory but you can use them as the basis of a coaching call if you'd like feedback.

Do I get support or personal mentoring?

Yes, the course includes 2 x 45-minute coaching calls with the Copywriting Coach, Bernadette Schwerdt. These calls can be conducted via Skype or phone. Bernadette tailors each call to your specific needs. All topics can be covered, from setting up your business, getting feedback on your work, reviewing your quotes, helping you find clients, building your website etc. Whatever you need, Bernadette can help you with it.

How long does each course take to complete?

Each course takes around 20-25 hours to complete. This is based on you spending around 1 hour per module and ½ hour on an assignment per module.

Our recommendation would be to work your way through the course for a few weeks, note down as many questions as you can and then schedule a call with Bernadette, the Copywriting Coach. That way, you can get the most from the coaching session.

How will I get access to the course?

Upon enrolment, you will receive an email from us with details on how to log into the online learning platform. 

How long will I have access to the material?

Forever! Once you purchase the course, it’s yours to keep and refer back to throughout your copywriting journey.

How likely am I to get work once I’ve completed the course?

Very. Our courses are specifically designed to upskill you so you’re work-ready, with feedback loops that’ll help you build your confidence to go out into the world and write. The secret? How many coaching calls are included in the deluxe package offer?

Are the assignments compulsory?

No. The assignments are a way for you to cement your learning and put your skills in to practice. If you'd like feedback on assignments, please send them to Bernadette as the basis of a coaching call. 

Does Bernadette use the 45-minute coaching call to read and review work, or is the time fully dedicated to feedback?

Bernadette prepares her feedback in advance of your call. She won’t use your time together to read through the work. She knows the coaching calls are a big part of why people choose the course and she makes herself totally available to her students during the time they have with her.

45 minutes for a coaching call doesn't seem like a lot of time. Will I have time to cover everything?

Bernadette works fast and has coached hundreds of students. She knows the answers to most questions and has seen the same issues come up over the years. Believe it or not, most students run out of questions before their time is up so she encourages you to compile as many questions as possible before the call.

How can I send my assignments to Bernadette for feedback?

You can send it in a Word document and email it to her.

Is there a time limit by when the calls must be used?

No. There is no ‘statute of limitations’ with your calls. You are welcome to schedule them with Bernadette when they suit you. We do recommend scheduling a call with Bernadette within 30 days of enrolment so that she can help you set some specific goals and strategies that will help you get your business up and running quickly.

Experience tells us that those who schedule a coaching call in the early stages of the course do well.

How do I set up a coaching call?

To get your coaching calls underway, you simply email Bernadette (info@copyschool.com) or phone her on 0419 891 932 and you can set a date that’s convenient.

We can either Zoom or just speak on the phone. Bernadette needs about 7-10 days’ notice for coaching calls.

How can I enrol?

If I enrol in the deluxe package offer, what course should I start with?

We recommend that you work your way through the ‘Copywriting for Profit’ course, the 'SEO Copywriting' course and then the ‘Get Paid To Write’ course. This will give you a really strong foundation in the copywriting process and the business of copywriting and will help you find the niche or areas of interest for you.

How are these courses different to the Australian Writers' Centre (AWC) courses?

Bernadette Schwerdt is the founder of Copy School and the creator and tutor of all the courses you see here. She is also the head copywriting tutor at Australian Writers’ Centre (AWC) course and is the creator and tutor of the copywriting courses they offer. What’s the difference between the courses? Are the courses accredited?

No. And that’s a good thing. The copywriting industry is one of the few industries that does not have a formal accreditation body recognised by Australian training authorities, such as OTTE.

Why is this a good thing? Because it means that employment is given to copywriters based on their experience and the quality of work in their portfolio, not on whether they can pass an exam or not. What could be fairer than that?

There’s an old saying ‘you’re only as good as your last ad’. It might be a cliché but it’s true.

You will be employed as a copywriter because you create great ads, not because you have a degree in marketing or a Masters in Creative Writing or any other topic.

Do I need any qualifications or experience to do the courses?

No. The courses are open to everyone and there are no pre-requisites.

The Copywriting for Profit and SEO copywriting courses are great for those with no experience in copywriting at all as we teach you everything you need to get started and to get out there earning money. It’s also very useful for those who need to write brochures or advertisements for their employer or for those business owners who don’t want to hire an expensive advertising agency to do their copywriting.

Are the courses just for copywriters or can other freelancers benefit from it?

These courses have been written with freelance copywriters in mind, but the courses are very suitable for anyone in a freelance business or indeed anyone who would like to learn how to market their own business.

I already work in the advertising/marketing industry. Are these courses still useful?

English is my second language - is that OK?
